When USA Today launched its iPad app last year, critics noted that two big sections of the newspaper’s coverage—Tech and Travel—were missing entirely from its tablet content. No more.
The addition of those two coverage areas are the biggest changes in Friday’s launch of USA Today for iPad version 2.0. Previously, that content had been available on the paper’s iPhone app, which made its exclusion from the iPad all the more perplexing.
The new Tech section includes all of the paper’s technology coverage, as well as its App Insider reviews of other iPad offerings, Week in Space photo galleries, and a video player that offers “Talking Tech” reviews and news from the industry. The Travel section also includes photo galleries and travel blogs, along with a look at nationwide airport delays that can be viewed on a map or in list format.
USA Today said the update includes multitasking support for iPads running iOS 4.2 or later, as well as bug fixes from the previous versions. The app is free and compatible with iPads running iOS 3.2 or later.
