Stranded by the latest snowpocalypse? If you’ve got an iOS device, Lonely Planet wants you to know you’re not alone.
A severe winter storm is hitting much of the U.S. this week, closing airports and throwing travel plans into chaos. But Lonely Planet announced Tuesday that it was making 14 of its iPhone-based mobile city guides available free to travelers. The guides will be available for free from the App Store through 6 p.m. PT on Friday, Feb. 4.
The free guides offer by Lonely Planet include cities in the U.S. and Canada. Travelers can download apps for Boston, Chicago, Fort Myers, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, Montreal, New Orleans, New York, San Francisco, Seattle, Toronto, Vancouver, and Washington D.C..
This isn’t the first time that Lonely Planet has come to the aid of stranded travelers with free iPhone apps. Last year, when an Icelandic volcano grounded flights throughout Europe, the travel guide publisher offered 13 of its city guides for free.
