Mint.com upgrades iPhone app, drops support for iOS 3

Mint.com has upgraded its iPhone app to free users from the tyranny of needing a desktop computer to organize their finances—but it is leaving users of older iOS operating systems behind.

Version 1.8.53 of the company’s app made its debut this week. The upgraded app features a redesigned user interface that discards tabbed navigation in favor of a “home base” overview of a user’s finances. Other new features include the ability to register for a Mint.com account directly from the app, rather than having to start out from a computer before using the mobile program.

The downside for some users is that the upgrade comes with a tradeoff: Mint.com will no longer support iPhones running iOS 3. The company said in its announcement the decision will make it “easier for us to utilize the latest iOS technology.”

The app continues to let users connect to their online banking accounts—more than 18,000 banks are in the Mint.com network—to track their transactions and overall financial health.

Mint.com is free, and compatible with devices running iOS 4.0 or later.
