Adobe Ideas app now offers premium layers feature, more
By Danny Gallagher
Adobe apparently has some new ideas for Ideas, the company’s iOS vector-drawing app. A new update adds a premium layers feature, improved panning and zooming, and support for Apple’s VGA adapter.
Most significant is the addition of layers, which is available as a $5 in-app purchase (Ideas itself is free). Users can have up to 10 layers as well as an additional photo layer for each sketch. The Move tool makes it easy to control, scale, and rotate a layer, and users can specify opacity and layer order as they wish.
Another substantial new feature is the inclusion of support for external displays and projectors, meaning sketches can be demonstrated in real-time on a big screen. However, in order to take advantage of it, you’ll need Apple’s Dock Connector VGA adapter.
Also included in the update are more responsive panning and zooming, the ability to move the toolbar to the left or right side of the screen, and improved smoothing for the program’s drawing tool that should help eliminate unsightly jagged edges.
Ideas is a free download and requires any iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad running iOS 3.1 or later.
