Box.net on Thursday jazzed up its cloud storage and collaboration app for iPad and iPhone, adding some much-requested features and enhancements for giving presentations and protecting sensitive data.
“The changes are focused on helping mobile professionals ditch their laptops,” Box.net chief operating officer Dan Levin told Macworld. Among the additions is support for video out via accessories like Apple’s Dock Connector to VGA Adapter. “But we don’t just project the entire screen,” Levin explained. The Box.net iPad app will project only what is displayed in its content area, allowing you to give a clean presentation and swipe between slides.
Next on the list is support for AirPrint, the new wireless printing technology that Apple added in iOS 4.2 last year. Whether your document is stored locally or you snag a copy from the cloud, Box.net can now print it wirelessly from your iPad to any AirPrint-compatible printer (or elsewhere if you take advantage of a utility like Printopia).
Box.net also brought some additional security and authentication options in this new version. For example, you can now set a four-digit locking code on the app as well as use the new Single Sign-On feature to log into your Box.net account using your Google Apps credentials or the Ping Identity service.
Box.net is a free, universal app for iPhone and iPad, and the update is available now in the App Store. It requires an iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch running iOS 3.0 or later.
