There are so many mobile TV and movie viewing options that it’s a wonder we still have TV in this day and age. Now, however, you have one less excuse to chuck your HD flatscreen out the window, besides the fact that you might kill someone: Sling Media has added support for component video out in both its SlingPlayer Mobile for iPad app and its iPhone and iPod touch app.
That means you can stream movies and TV shows from your home television to a TV or display elsewhere, as long as you have the right hookup—namely, Apple’s Component AV Cable or a third-party equivalent. You’ll also need to be streaming in HQ (High Quality) mode, which on the iPhone or iPod touch will require at least a 500kbps connection over 3G or a 800kbps connection over Wi-Fi; on the iPad, it requires 800kbps over 3G and 1200kbps over Wi-Fi.
The video output option comes with the Version 1.1 upgrade to the iPad app and a 2.1 update to the iPhone and iPod touch app, both of which also includes various bug fixes.
The two apps are available for $30 for the iPhone or iPod Touch or for $30 on the iPad.
