Adobe Creative Suite 5.5 is very much a departure for the software giant, which used to go 18 months between product upgrades. With the 5.5 update, Adobe will begin a 24-month product cycle, with mid-cycle upgrades coming every year for selected programs and suites. Creative Suite 5.5 also introduces a new subscription-based pricing plan aimed at giving professional users more flexibility to use Adobe’s software.
We covered the bulk of the changes in Creative Suite 5.5 when Adobe announced them in April, including Adobe’s Photoshop Touch Software Development Kit for creating mobile applications. But here’s a rundown of the various editions that became available Tuesday and how much they cost:
Creative Suite 5.5 Design Premium features updated versions of InDesign, Dreamweaver, Flash Professional, and Flash Catalyst; it also includes Acrobat X Pro, Illustrator, Photoshop Extended, and Fireworks. The Design Premium collection costs $1899. A Design Standard collection includes Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Acrobat and costs $1299.
Creative Suite 5.5 Web Premium has updated versions of Dreamweaver, Flash Professional, Flash Catalyst, Flash Builder, and Device Central. A new Flex framework for mobile devices is due in June. The $1799 suite also includes Acrobat X Pro.
Creative Suite 5.5 Production Premium delivers updates to Premiere Pro, After Effects, Adobe Flash Professional, Flash Catalyst, Adobe Story, Media Encoder, and Device Central. It also adds Audition, an audio-for-video multitrack editing component. Production Premium costs $1699.
