Video gaming giant Electronic Arts on Tuesday announced that it will buy Firemint, the Australian developer behind classic iOS games like Flight Control and Real Racing. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
In a press release announcing the deal, EA Interactive executive vice president and general manager Barry Cottle said that “the Firemint team is remarkable for its critical and commercial success,” and that the acquisition “will accelerate our position as worldwide leader in game development for mobile devices.”
The press release also teases that beyond Flight Control and Real Racing, Firemint has also created “an attractive future slate of games.”
EA has been snapping up game developers faster than iPhone owners can buy games. Late in 2010, the company acquired Chillingo, the publisher of the original Angry Birds; more recently EA acquired Mobile Post Production, which EA describes as “the worldwide leader in high quality cross-platform development and porting of games for smartphones.”
