It’s the week after WWDC, or, as we like to call it, “Oh my god, my head.” Despite Apple’s many reveals, the Web doesn’t stop spinning: There’re plenty of rumors about a new iPhone, unlocked iPhone 4s, and the death of iWeb. In other words, we’re back—did you miss us? The remainders for Monday, June 13, 2011 missed you, too.
Next iPhone reaches final testing stage, Verizon likely won’t support 3G FaceTime this year
(9 to 5 Mac)
Plenty of folks lamented the lack of new hardware at WWDC, despite the fact that none was really expected. (One friend went so far as to send me a sympathy e-mail about not getting a new iPhone.) But just because there wasn’t one last week doesn’t mean the iPhone 5 isn’t coming eventually. 9 to 5 Mac says it’s not only in the offing, but also mentions that Verizon may not support a FaceTime-over-3G feature. I guess that explains AT&T’s new ad campaign: “Can you see me now?”
Unlocked iPhone 4s?
As long as we’re talking phone rumors, here’s one out of left field from hacker Chronic: Unlocked iPhone 4s may drop this week. This is great news for those people who a) have T-Mobile, b) haven’t jailbroken their iPhone, c) don’t mind not getting 3G speeds, and d) are happy to pay a price premium. Congratulations, you two!
Steve Jobs Confirms Discontinuation of iWeb in iCloud Transition
One iWeb user e-mailed Steve Jobs to ask if the iLife component would be axed with the introduction of iCloud. As you might expect, Jobs’s supposed answered is a detailed, nuanced argument of why iWeb was no longer necessary in Apple’s cloud-enhanced future.
Just kidding! It was the word “Yep.”
John Linnell of They Might Be Giants: A Technologizer Tech Interview
You may know John Linnell better as one half of the dynamic musical duo They Might Be Giants. But did you know he’s a long-time Mac user and tech aficionado? You would if you had read the extensive interview by Macworld contributor Benj Edwards over at Technologizer. Most importantly, Linnell had admitted for the first time that he does want the whole world, and not just your half.
