The $50 Marware C.E.O. Hybrid combines the protection of hard-shell cases with the flexibility of folio cases. The C.E.O. Hybrid has a hard-shell exterior with black, patterned carbon fiber that gives it a sleek look, while the interior is lined with soft, grey micro-fiber. It is fairly slim, though the hard shell makes it a bit heavier than most folios.
Curled corners and edges hold the iPad 2 very securely in place, while leaving all ports and connections easily accessible. The cover closes on the case in the same method and stays tightly fastened. It’s not the prettiest design to hold an iPad in place, but it does give the device ample protection from drops and outside impact.
The C.E.O. Hybrid also acts as a stand, with various viewing angles. By pulling the iPad out of two corner holders, it can be moved into three different landscape angles. You can also hold the iPad with an elastic strap located on the cover’s interior.
An added bonus: The C.E.O. Hybrid’s front cover activates the iPad 2’s magnetic sleep/wake function, just as the Apple Smart Cover does. Overall, Marware has succeeded in creating a good-looking, functional folio that offers the protection of a hard case.
