Speck’s $40 FitFolio Cover for iPad 2 is a chic, protective folio-style case that looks great open or closed. The iPad fits snug inside a hard, matte-plastic shell, and a soft, faux-leather cover offers multiple viewing options.
The cover features a small, unassuming bungee chord that can be wrapped around a ridge on the back shell, keeping the folio securely closed or open. This same ridge is used when setting the iPad into an adjustable landscape-orientation mode. The micro-suede interior of the case has four grooves that keep the iPad in place even during moderate jostling.
The case completely covers all sides, edges, and corners of the iPad, leaving openings only for the buttons, ports, cameras, and speaker. This provides a level of hardshell protection that many attractive iPad cases—including many traditional folios—lack. The FitFolio also looks like it will age well—the soft, faux-leather exterior is not easily scuffed, and the hard, matte-plastic shell looks malleable enough to withstand some wear without cracking. The micro-suede interior, however, picks up any and all dust in its path, which is especially problematic because it closes flush against the iPad’s screen.
Overall, Speck’s FitFolio is a great case for the price. It provides front-to-back protection and has many stable viewing positions. But the best part about the FitFolio is how good it looks in each of its five colors: black, peacock (teal blue), red, aubergine (purple), or grey. Its simple, faux-leather-and-matte-plastic design will keep your iPad looking classy.
