Incase’s Magazine Jacket for iPad 2 provides end-to-end protection for your favorite device and doubles as a viewing stand or typing platform. It doesn’t have the adjustable angle options of some other cases, but the basics are there.
Incase’s $50 Magazine Jacket for the iPad 2 is a good alternative for those who like the look of Apple’s Smart Cover, but want both front and back device protection. The folio case features a plastic, hard-shell back that holds the iPad 2 snugly in place, and a foldable cover that doubles as a screen protector and stand. The case has openings for the Sleep/Wake button, volume buttons, Home button, front and back cameras, and speaker. The headphone jack and dock-connector port are also accessible, even when the case is closed.
While the cover has a similar design to the Apple Smart Cover, it does not support the iPad 2’s magnetic sleep/wake feature. However, this case gives you three different landscape-viewing modes instead of two—one of which is at perfect typing angle and the other two are better suited for watching video. The Magazine Jacket doesn’t have as many adjustable viewing options of some other iPad cases, but the basics are there.
The hard-shell case comes in black and cornflower blue, though the front cover only comes in black. The case has an elastic band to keep the Magazine Jacket securely closed or open. It’s sturdy, compact, and lightweight, and for the price, it’s a decent option for those who don’t mind the lack of sleep/wake feature support.
