New Mac-compatible printers hit the market Monday—one aimed at institutional users, the other two intended for home office photo printing.
Samsung’s new CLP-775ND color laser printer is being pitched for use in business, government, and education settings. The CLP-775ND is powered by a 600 MHz Dual Core processor and sports 384 MB of memory; it includes a 500-page cassette, a 100-sheet multi-purpose tray, and a 350-sheet output tray to enable 35-page-per-minute printing. The printer can handle a variety of paper stocks, ranging in size from 3-by-5 inches to 8.5-by-14 inches.
Epson, meanwhile, unveiled two new printers for home photo printing— the Artisan 837 and Artisan 730. Both Artisan devices let users print photos (at lab-quality resolution, Epson says), web pages, and email attachments wirelessly from their iPad and iPhone, in addition to from their Mac computer.
Both machines offer print speeds of 9.6 single-sided pages-per-minute using black ink or 9.1 pages-per-minute for color images; those numbers drop to 4.9 and 4.7 pages per minute, respectively, on double-sided print jobs. Additionally, the Artisan 837 offers high-speed color copying and faxing, and includes a 30-page automatic document feeder.
Samsung’s printer is available for a suggested retail price of $1,072. Epson’s new printers will be available in September: The Artisan 837 will retail for $300; the Artisan 730 will sell for $200.
