Our Verdict
For those who like Apple’s Smart Cover design, but want some added protection for the back of their iPad 2, the Uniq Clinch Collection Dainte Series is a great option. The folio case features a magnetized, foldable cover nearly identical to Apple’s, along with a sleeve to keep the iPad’s backside more protected. At $49, it’s costs far less than buying the Smart Cover and a compatible back cover separately.
The Dainte is thin and lightweight, keeping in tune to Apple’s own design. The case is made out of synthetic leather and comes in red with orange stitching, white with red stitching, tan with brown stitching, or black on black. You slide the iPad into the frame and secure it with a fold-in flap. There are magnets on the cover and outlining the frame, which prevents the cover from flapping around and supports the iPad’s sleep/wake feature. All ports and buttons are accessible.
Like the Apple Smart Cover, the Dainte’s cover folds back to provide two landscape viewing modes. The angle is a little lower compared to the Smart Cover, which I actually liked better in both positions. This case doesn’t provide heavy-duty protection, but for those that don’t want to add much bulk to their iPad, it’s a worthy alternative to Apple’s smart cover.
