Does Al Gore hold the key to the next iPhone? Should we trust predictions of an early October Apple event? Will Sprint get the iPhone 5 before T-Mobile? These questions and more, addressed in a humorous fashion in the remainders for Wednesday, September 21, 2011.
Apple’s Next Event to Be Held on October 4, Starring Its New CEO (All Things D)
We’ve moved on from iPhone rumors to rumors of an event at which a new iPhone might be announced. All Things D reports that Tuesday, October 4 will be the day to end all days, with Tim Cook taking the stage to roll out iOS 5 and a new iPhone to go with it. Many are saying Cook needs to set the tone for his first event as CEO, so if I may make a humble suggestion, bring Phil Schiller on
for a classy duet.
Apple board member Al Gore, speaking at conference, ‘confirms’ new iPhones in October – that’s PLURAL (The Next Web)
I know, I know—you still don’t trust rumors of a new iPhone coming soon. You’ve been burned too many times before. But what if I could give you an authoritative source—like, say, a former vice president of the United States? That’s right, Apple board member and alternate universe president Al Gore said at a conference that new iPhones would be coming in October. Put that inconvenient truth in your pipe and smoke it.
Sprint: iPhone ‘No. 1’ reason subs leave, Apple deal hinted (Electronista)
At another conference, across town, Sprint CEO Dan Hesse suggested that his network might get a “certain device,” which many are taking as a not-so-veiled reference to the iPhone 5. Over at T-Mobile,
the company employees just kept sitting there sadly.
HP Board Said to Weigh Ousting CEO Apotheker (Bloomberg)
Speaking of former leaders, HP CEO Leo Apotheker might be on his way out, after about a year on the job. Hey, maybe Al Gore will be looking for a new gig.
French papers team up to break Apple stranglehold (Reuters)
Eight French newspapers have teamed up to take on Apple’s terms for selling publications on the App Store, including lowering Cupertino’s 30-percent cut. I say maybe if they throw in some good wine, and a finely aged Camembert.
