iPhone 4S Teardown (iFixit)
In a development that should surprise absolutely nobody, iFixit has already turned a brand new iPhone 4S into a pile of parts. The crew found a 1GHz A5 processor, 512MB of RAM, and absolutely no trace of that Siri chick.
Apple prepping movie cloud service (LATimes)
According to the LA Times, Apple may be planning to add streaming support for movies to its iCloud-based media offerings. Supposedly, you’d be able to stream a movie you purchased via iTunes to any iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, or Newton that you own.
Scott Forstall, the Sorcerer’s Apprentice at Apple (BusinessWeek)
BusinessWeek has an extensive profile of Apple’s senior vice president of iOS software, Scott Forstall. The article describes Forstall as a “polarizing” figure who follows closely in the footsteps of his mentor, Steve Jobs—even down to having his own signature outfit for presentations. That was after, of course, Forstall was made to give up his first choice for wardrobe: a realistic Darth Vader suit.
SoundHound ∞ – SoundHound has updated its music recognition app to version 4.1, bringing iCloud integration: When you bookmark a song on one device, it is transferred to all your other devices. In addition, there are now full-screen LiveLyrics (for U.S. and Canadian users), in-app settings, and Facebook and Twitter badges for artists. $7. Free version also available.
GoodReader 3.9.1 for iPhone, 3.9.0 for iPad – Good.iWare has updated the iOS versions of its popular PDF reader to support iOS 5 and iCloud. It also now incorporates data protection for all files, AirPlay support for audio files, the ability to disable PDF annotations’ delete confirmation dialog, and security for the Enter URL option if a Web browser password is enabled. $5 for iPhone; $5 for iPad.
Securely Password Vault 1.1 – Dapper Gentlemen’s password storage and syncing utility for iOS has been released, with full support for synchronizing passwords via iCloud. The app also generates passwords with different levels of security. $3 for iPhone; $5 for iPad.
Password Caddy 2.5 – AppPoetry has revved its password management app to version 2.5. It now supports iOS 5 and syncing your passwords via iCloud. $3.
Voice Recorder HD 4.0 – eFusion has updated its iOS audio recording app to version 4.0, adding support for iOS 5 (the app now requires iOS 5 as well). You can now share and back up recorded voice memos via iCloud, cancel uploads of large files to Dropbox, and see file size and file name in your list of memos. There’s also improved file naming, including the ability to change a file’s name via iTunes File Sharing. The app will also auto-save recordings if they’re interrupted by an incoming phone call. $2.
