We’re back with another iPad case roundup, and this week’s installment features some great examples of minimalistic designs that protect your iPad without getting in the way of its beautiful design, as well as some great products that surround the beauty of the tablet with a luxurious—and sometimes quirky—exterior.
AviiQ: The Smart Case (iPad 2; $35 to $39) is designed to complement Apple’s Smart Cover by providing protection for the back of your iPad while matching the style of Apple’s own accessory. The Smart Case features a “rugged plastic encased in a solid aluminum plate anodized” in orange, red, green, pink, blue, grey, or black.
DodoCase: The Morris Lessmore DodoCase (iPad 2; $65) is a special version of the company’s signature book-binding iPad case, inspired by the short film—and now iOS app—of the same name. Built by hand with the artisanal care for which DodoCase is known, the case is made of red faux leather and even incorporate the requisite magnets for compatibility with the iPad 2’s magnetic sleep/wake function.
G-Form: The Extreme Edge (iPad and iPad 2; $45) takes full advantage of the company’s Reactive Protection Technology, a composite blend of materials that provides protection for very active users. The case has been designed to offer protection to the front of your iPad without obstructing its view.
Griffin Technology: The TechSafe (iPad 2; $80) keeps your tablet safe from dust, dents, scratches, and sticky fingers. In addition to being made of a robust and lightweight material and featuring a flip-out stand for typing and screen viewing, the TechSafe can be connected to a steel security cable and lock, making it good choice for situations in which an iPad 2 must be left in the hands of strangers. The case includes all the necessary hardware.
Root Cases: This company specializes in cases made entirely out of solid, high-quality woods, including Walnut and Bamboo (iPad 2; $79 each). Both models feature a book-like construction and a magnetic closure, and each includes all the appropriate openings for the iPad 2’s cameras, controls, and ports.
SofProducts: The SofShell for iPad 2 ($50) is designed to work alongside Apple’s Smart Cover by protecting the back of your tablet. The case’s rubberized construction ensures a strong grip at angles up to 70 degrees, and, according to the company, provides excellent protection against bumps and scratches.
Sailor Bags: Here’s the perfect case for sailing enthusiasts—including those who, like my dad, like to keep their maps on the iPad. The iPad Sleeve (iPad and iPad2; $27) is constructed entirely using sailcloth and is available in either blue, red, or white. A front pocket provides additional room for cables, key, and ID. Sailor Bags will even embroider on the bag, for a small additional fee, the text of your choice.
Tom Bihn: Though strictly not a case, the 11/iPad Cadet (iPad and iPad 2; $170) is a briefcase designed to fit a netbook alongside documents and other accessories, and it include a specially-designed pocket for the iPad. the Cadet is available in green, blue, grey, black, burgundy, or black.
