Welcome to another edition of Macworld’s weekly iPad case roundup. This installment features the usual mix of models, including a couple of cases designed to help you take your entire office on the road, and two more that try to keep your iPad safe in less conventional settings. Let’s tuck right in!
Benzitech: The iDry (iPad 2; price unavailable) is a waterproof case that protects your iPad from both rainfall and the shock of being submerged in up to thirty feet of water. The case floats—a desirable feature for keeping your iPad dry and preventing you from having to rescue it from sinking into deep water—and also keeps foreign contaminants like dust and sand away from the delicate surfaces of your tablet.
Griffin Technology: The Survivor (iPad 2; $80) is built to protect your tablet from the elements—sand, dirt, rain, shock, and vibration are all declared enemies of Griffin’s latest creation. This military-duty case, built to actual U.S. Department of Defense specifications, is made out of tough polycarbonate and comes in either a pink/black or black/black color combination.
iCharge It: The iCharge It (iPad 2; $140) falls squarely in the “office in a bag” camp. It features a wireless Bluetooth keyboard, a 10W USB charger, USB cables, a memo-pad holder, a full-sized paper pocket, a zipper pocket, and even a business card holder. The only thing missing is a place to conveniently stash your assistant.
ID America: The Cushi Stripe (iPad 2; $25) is a stick-on cover that combines style with protection, thanks to its soft EVA foam backing. This soft foam also enhances the case’s tactile features, making your grip more comfortable and secure. The adhesive backing is designed to adhere securely to your iPad without leaving any residue when you decide to take it off.
Kensington: The KeyLite (iPad 2; $120) is a folio-style case that incorporates a slim, touch-sensitive Bluetooth keyboard. The case can be propped up at either of two angles—one for use with the keyboard, and another for viewing a movie or other video content. The keyboard is both dust- and spill-proof, and has an iPad-friendly layout and design.
PadBare: The PadBare (iPad and iPad 2; $80) is a backpack made from high-quality memory foam that protects your devices from scratches, dents, and bumps. As you would expect from a backpack, it includes a number of pockets, nooks, and crannies for anything else you want to carry around, including notepads and a laptop.
Targus: The SpinPad (iPad 2; $60) is a hard-shell case with a pop-out stand that can be used to prop up your iPad for easy viewing and reading. The stand also doubles as a handle for a comfortable and secure grip while on the go. It’s available in black, and it’s compatible with Apple’s Smart Cover.
