If it seems like it was only last year that Apple was celebrating the download of its 10 billionth app—well, you’d be right. But the App Store stops for no milestone: Apple on Friday announced a new promotion, as the company counts down to its 25 billionth app download. That’s billion, with a “b,” as in “Boy oh boy, has Apple sold a lot of apps.”
If you’re the lucky person who downloads app number 25,000,000,000, Apple will present you with a $10,000 App Store gift card. (That’s enough to buy 2,004 copies of Angry Birds HD.)
The App Store launched in July of 2008 and now contains more than half a million apps. The fine print on Apple’s promotion indicates that you must be 13 years or older (or the minimum age required by your country) at the time you download the app, and only 25 contest entries are permitted per user per day. The company is counting down downloads live on its website. You can also enter the contest on that site without having to purchase an app or download a free one.
