There are two kinds of people in this world: Folks so excitedly using their brand new iPads that they’re ignoring this week’s Weekly Wrap, and the rest of us. For you who cling to your older iPads, or simply aren’t ready to own an Apple tablet at all, then, I once again present a roundup of the biggest and best stories from Macworld.com over the past week.
The new iPad
The biggest news of the week, of course, was the arrival of the new iPad. Jason Snell offered up an epic review (along with an equally epic podcast), and his praise no doubt inspired the large crowds that lined up across the globe on Friday to buy the third-generation iPad. Well, that, and everyone loves a good queue these days.
We offered up a ton of new iPad advice. (Note: One ton is about 1370 new iPads.) We can advise you on iPad data plans, the specifics of Retina display-ready imagery, and a guide to accessorizing the new tablet, too. (Pro-tip: The new iPad looks fabulous with a little glitter and a scarf.)
If you’re a first-time buyer, we can advise you on whether to get the new iPad or the still-around-in-16GB-form iPad 2. We can help you figure out what to do with your old iPad, and if you decide to sell it, we can help you get the best price.
Once your new iPad is firmly in hand, here’s how to get started with it. (Our instructions pick up after you unbox the iPad, so do that first.)
And then you may as well dive into the past week’s slew of…
If you accidentally interrupt an iOS install and need to recover, we have the cure for an incomplete update. If the OS you just successfully installed is iOS 5.1 and you’re an iTunes Match customer, here’s the skinny on getting Genius working.
We reviewed Apple’s latest iLife app for iOS—iPhoto, an app especially useful with the new iPad’s fancier iSight camera. Then, after typing that sentence, we feared an i-Overload. But we recovered.
And we looked at a variety of other apps, too:
Mac software and advice
Apple updated Safari. We reviewed Hazel, a standout file organizer.
And we put together a variety of tutorials on topics including:
Apple’s latest incarnation of its Apple TV hobby came out this week, too; Jason Snell reviewed it, as well. If you’re wondering how best to think about the Apple TV, we’ve got you covered there, too.
And that, dear friends, wraps up another week.
