Environmental activists want Apple to clean up its cloud act, Cupertino wants to silence Siri complainers, and a noted screenwriter gets ready to put words in Steve Jobs’s mouth. The remainders for Wednesday, May 16, 2012 are all out of bubblegum.
Clean Our Cloud (Greenpeace)
The Greenpeace folks are at it again. This time, two activists from the organization barricaded themselves in a giant “iPod” outside 1 Infinite Loop, in order to protest Apple’s usage of coal to power its data centers. They were removed, but not before bloggers around the world had already spread rumors of Apple’s new prototype space capsule.
Apple Fires Back in Lawsuit over Siri’s Performance (Wall Street Journal)
Apple’s attempting to have a judge dismiss a smattering of lawsuits claiming that Siri doesn’t work as well in reality as it does on the company’s commercials. Cupertino’s lawyers argued in a filing that the complaining customers could have just returned their phones, but didn’t. One of the customers reportedly retorted that that was only because he couldn’t get Siri to direct him to the nearest Apple Store.
Apple Moves Toward Larger iPhone Screens (Wall Street Journal)
The next iPhone may have something no previous model has had: a four-inch display. So say the ever popular “people familiar with the matter.” Call me when you get some people unfamiliar with the matter.
Aaron Sorkin to Write ‘Steve Jobs’ Movie for Sony (The Hollywood Reporter)
Aaron Sorkin is officially on the Jobs. The screenwriter of The Social Network and Moneyball and creator of shows like The West Wing and Sports Night will adapt Walter Isaacson’s biography of the late Apple co-founder for Sony Pictures. This is entirely separate from the indie movie based on Jobs that will star Ashton Kutcher. For one thing, there will be way more scenes with people simultaneously walking and talking.
