An iPad prototype sold for five figures, the next Pixar movie lavishes ghostly love upon late Apple CEO Steve Jobs, and leaked photos suggest that the next iPhone will grow in some ways and shrink in others. The remainders for Tuesday, May 29, 2012, won’t stop thinking about tomorrow.
iPad Prototype With Dual Dock Connectors Pops Up on eBay (Wired.com)
If you had an extra $10,200 sitting around, you could have become the proud owner of a largely non-functional prototype iPad from the deepest bowels of Apple’s secret laboratories. This iPad sports not one dock connector port, but two. We may never know what convinced Apple to ship the iPad with a single dock connector port instead, but there is one thing we will never forget: The phrase “dock connector port” sounds considerably more futuristic and sci-fi-ish than the actual jack it describes.
Pixar’s ‘Brave’ Pays Ghostly Tribute to Steve Jobs – Speakeasy (WSJ)
Pixar’s next big movie is called Brave, and hits theaters next month. The Wall Street Journal reports that at an early, unfinished version of the movie shows a ghostly creature flitting around Steve Jobs’s name during the film’s credits. Spooky? Maybe. But it won’t haunt you nearly as long as paying full-price to see Cars 2 did.
Apple’s new retail chief announces three month advance on employee pay raises (9to5Mac)
As one of his first orders of business, Apple’s senior vice president of retail—a man with the everyman hero moniker John Browett—told retail store employees that their raises would arrive three months early this year, on June 30 instead of September 30. That can only mean one thing: A new, pricey Apple product is coming out on July 1. Let’s all go get in line now! You first.
9to5Mac shares what it says are pictures of the next iPhone, with a taller (but no wider) screen, a relocated headphone jack, and a much smaller dock connector port. So all those cables you’ve accumulated for charging your i-things could be just months away from becoming officially useless. On the plus side, if the photos prove legit, that will afford the team at Macworld many more opportunities to toss around the phrase “dock connector port” in the months ahead.
