The week in iPad Cases: Post-holiday protection

If the holidays brought you both good cheer and a new iPad, it’s probably a good idea to think about protecting it.

There are many fabulous cases available for iPads large and mini. To help you get started, here’s the latest installment of our weekly roundup, with a fresh batch of newly introduced cases for all tastes and needs.

The Enigma (iPad mini; $40) is a flexible, folding folio that protects your tablet all around. The front cover of this case folds both across and diagonally, allowing you to prop up your iPad mini at a variety of typing and viewing angles in both landscape and portrait orientations.

The Prada Black Cashmere Sweater (iPad 2, 3, and 4; $229) is made from an infamous piece of American history: According to the company, the sleeve is made from reclaimed clothing that was auctioned off by the U.S. Marshal Service. More specifically, it comes from the clothes of none other than Bernie Madoff, who was convicted for running one of the largest Ponzi schemes in history.

The Drop Tech Designer Series (iPad mini; $60) provides end-to-end protection for your tablet, including screen and port covers, with a dual-material construction that provides multiple layers of shock absorption, along with reinforced rubber bumpers on the corners.

The case comes in four color combinations: blue/pink, orange/blue, purple/pink, and yellow/blue.

The Pulse (iPad mini; $50) features two different layers of material to provide excellent protection, as well as the contrasting colors and textures that give this case its signature look and feel.

But the case is not all about looks: The first layer provides wraparound protection while maintaining access to all ports, buttons, switches, and cameras, while the second layer adds shock absorption for bumps and falls.

The Folio Shield (iPad mini; $32) is a folio-style case that can be used to prop up your tablet for viewing at multiple angles in landscape orientation.

Made from durable microfiber-leather and compatible with the iPad mini’s magnetic sleep/wake functionality, the case comes in violet red, black, white, or grey.

If you’re not into big, bulky cases, but you still want a quick and easy way to hang on to your iPad mini while you walk around, the Padlette (iPad mini; $12) could be for you.

This elastic strap, which is available in a variety of colors, attaches to opposite corners of your tablet, providing a convenient grip for your hand to slip into.

The Bordo Back Cover (iPad 2, 3, and 4; $30) features non-slip, shockproof-TPU edges complemented by a clear-polycarbonate back plate that lets the beauty of your tablet shine through while protecting it from bumps and scratches.

The case features all the appropriate openings to ensure unfettered access to the iPad’s ports, buttons, and cameras, and it even comes with a complimentary screen protector to provide true 360-degree protection.

Made in Italy from hand-stitched, textured leather, and with a snap closure featuring the iconic YSL logo, the case keeps everything safe during transport—except the case itself, of course, which costs more than the electronics you’re trying to protect.
