Apple Is Sued on Patent-Infringement Claim (Wall Street Journal, subscription required)
A company by the name of Intertrust Technologies Corp.—largely owned by Sony and Philips—has sued Apple for infringing its patents on Digital Rights Management in the iPhone, the iPad, Macs, the Apple TV, iTunes, iCloud, the App Store, and more. Hey, I’ve got a simple solution: Do away with all DRM.
Swinging for the stars: On Apple’s hiring of Kevin Lynch (iMore)
Much has been made of the news that former Adobe CTO Kevin Lynch has been hired to work at Apple, especially given Lynch’s evangelism of Flash and occasional shots at the iPhone—such as running it over with a steamroller. iMore’s Rene Ritchie has a balanced view of the situation, which also happens to contain the finest product grid of Apple executives that you’ll see today.
Walmart adds iPhone scan-and-checkout feature to 12 more markets (Reuters)
Like the Apple Store, Walmart offers customers the ability to buy things using an app on their iPhones. But now the company’s expanding it to more than 4000 of its stores in the U.S. That’s good news for convenience, but bad news because you’re still shopping at Walmart.
