Amazon took not just a page from Apple’s book, but apparently a whole site. Elsewhere, Intel is telling it like it is, and Jonathan Ive racks up yet another major award. What were the remainders for Thursday, April 18, 2013 saying again?
Amazon’s Goodreads Purchase Scuttled Apple Partnership (Wall Street Journal, subscription required)
Sneaksy Bezoses! Before Amazon snapped up Goodreads, the book-recommendation site was apparently on the verge of doing a deal to integrate its content with Apple’s iBookstore. Which at least explains why the only recommendation I get from the iBookstore is to read Walter Isaacson’s Steve Jobs. Over and over again. Forever.
Intel’s CEO coy about hinting at Apple deal (CNet)
CNet reports that Intel CEO Paul Otellini acted coy on Tuesday’s earning call when asked about whether Intel might start building ARM-based chips for Apple’s mobile devices. Said Otellini, coyly: “No.”
Huh. That word “coy”—I do not think it means what you think it means, CNet.
Siri Remembers Your Secrets, But for How Long? (Wired)
Like an elephant, Apple’s virtual assistant Siri apparently never forgets what you tell her. So don’t ever try to pull that “I don’t remember saying that!” excuse.
Jonathan Ive (Time)
The man, the myth, the Jony Ive has made this year’s incarnation of the Time 100, the magazine’s list of the 100 most influential people in the world. That’s pretty great, but even better is that the blurb about says “Jony is Obi-Wan. His team are Jedi.” And did we mention that write-up was by Bono? Yes, that Bono. Yes. Seriously. What, do you know a lot of other Bonos? No, that was John Bonham. Not Bono. No. No. Bonobos are monkeys. Yes, monkeys. Okay? Okay.
