Sure, next Tuesday we get new iPads and the like. But what about this Tuesday? Right now? Living in the moment? YOLO?
That would a bunch of minor Java and printer driver updates from Apple, available right now via Software Update and from Apple’s website.
Java for OS X 2013-005 1.0 delivers “improved security, reliability, and compatibility by updating Java SE 6 to 1.6.0_65” for those running OS X 10.7 Lion or 10.8 Mountain Lion. And if you’ve been remiss in your duties and haven’t previously installed the Java for OS X 2012-006 update, note that Tuesday’s version will disable your Java applet plug-in, forcing you to download it from Oracle if you hope to use it again.
Those stuck in Snow Leopard-ville have Java for Mac OS X 10.6 Update 17 to look forward to when firing up Software Update instead. It provides similar buzzwords…er, improvements as the above version.
On the printer side of things, Apple also released new printer drivers for Canon and HP. Canon Laser Printer Drivers v2.11 for OS X and HP Printer Drivers v.2.16.1 provide the latest printing and scanning software needed for Snow Leopard or later.
