Wireless networking has been in the news a bit lately—as in, how secure is it on the Mac, and how will I be able to use it to stream multimedia in the near future? So there’s no better time than to turn the Macworld Podcast over to Glenn Fleishman, a frequent Macworld contributor and wireless networking expert.
Glenn and I begin with a discussion of the recent brouhaha over alleged security vulnerabilities in Apple’s MacBook wireless security driver. Then, we turn our attention to iTV, the code-name for the Apple product slated for an early 2007 release that will let you stream movies, music, and other multimedia files to your TV from your computer. And we close with a look at 802.11n, the next-generation wireless standard that currently awaits certification from the Wi-Fi Alliance.

Back in August, security research firm SecureWorks first reported a wireless vulnerability using a MacBook to show the hack—here’s a link to the original Washington Post report; Apple, however, noted that the demo involved a third-party wireless driver, not the one that ships with the MacBook. Apple subsequently released a Security and AirPort update for Mac OS X that fixed vulnerabilities found during an internal audit of its software drivers. Last week, Apple and SecureWorks announced they are now working together on “any reported security issues.”
