Vine’s last major iOS update finally let you upload clips from your Camera Roll, which was a major functional improvement. The video-sharing app, which lets you shoot six-second loops, dropped version 3.0 on Tuesday: An iOS 8 update that takes full advantage of Apple’s new tools.

iPhone 6 and 6 Plus owners will get the real benefit of the new Vine, which is optimized for the new phones’ larger displays for easier browsing through all hilarious clips that have come to define the app. Share extensions have arrived, so you can share clips to Vine from your Camera Roll or other video apps without hassle.
Vine improved content discovery in version 3.0 with a new option that lets you follow Vine channels to see curated selections from that channel in your main stream. It’s unclear yet if the upgrade improved the filtering for those channels, which range from Animals and Comedy to Sports and News. If you regularly visit a particular channel, you know that clips completely unrelated to the channel theme find their way into the stream, and it can be pretty irritating. The new follow option will hopefully involve a human element, so you’ll see Vines that people have selected to appear in the main feed.
Though it rarely makes waves in the same way parent company Twitter does, Vine has remained incredibly popular since its launch in January 2013, even creating a new kind of social media star. Popular Viners can make careers out of advertising products in their six-second clips. Five of the most popular video stars have been plucked from the service by The Office star Rainn Wilson to appear in a scripted TV comedy called Hollywood and Vine. You’ll see Curtis Lepore, Christian DelGrosso, Lele Pons, Jerry Purpdrank, and Simone Shepherd on the show if it gets picked up, Deadline reported Tuesday.
