The Week in iOS Accessories: Speakers, writing slates, and more from CES

This week’s roundup of accessories is 100-percent full of items on display at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Bluetooth speakers? We got ’em. And a few other gizmos, too.

We found a couple of new Bluetooth wireless speakers from this company at CES. The $60 XS “features full stereo sound, an enhanced bass radiator, and an efficient 12 hours of rechargeable battery life,” while the $60 NRG GLO (pictured) is shaped like an energy drink can and features a “Glow” mode that adds mood lighting to the beat of your music.

The $100 Automatic system is designed to make your car safer and more efficient. Just plug the module into the car’s data port—it works with most vehicles made since 1996—and it will record data that helps you understand, say, why your engine light lights up on your dashboard. It transmits a variety of information to an app on your iPhone, helping you remember where you parked; it even calls for help if you get in a crash.

This company is showing off a whole range of outdoor wireless speakers at CES this week. Representative of the lot?  The $120 Glendale (like others in Acoustic Research’s line, it looks a bit more like a camping lantern than an audio device) is a Bluetooth wireless speaker that operates on AC power or eight AA-batteries. Pair two of the devices together for true stereo sound.

The $40 HIP Sports Armband is designed to accommodate this company’s line of sports cases for iPhone. It features an interior two-slot card/key holder so you can work out away from home without the burden of a heavy bag to carry and protect your valuables.

The $179 iSketchnote is pretty nifty—put a piece of paper on the device’s “slate,” start writing or drawing with ink on the paper, then see the whole thing transmitted to the accompanying app on your iPad via a Bluetooth connection. The pack comes with the slate, two pens, and a cover.

Who knew this venerable electronics company had an eye on iOS? It does! It’s unleashing a host of backup battery and charging solutions at CES, but the one we might like in our household is the $100 8-Port Tabletop Charging Station—which, true to its name, lets up to eight mobile devices get powered up at the same time.

The $160 boomBOTTLE+ is a Bluetooth speaker with dual 50-mm drivers and two passive radiators that’s weatherproof, dust-proof, and powerful: It can play music for up to 11 hours on a single charge. Pair it with another boomBOTTLE+ for stereo sound.

This audio manufacturer has taken the lid off its new $300 UE MegaBoom, a Bluetooth speaker that “weighs less than two pounds, has a 20-hour rechargeable battery life and features a 100-foot wireless Bluetooth range.”
