The folks at Adobe want you to know that this experimental app for iPad is not just for placing a paint-effect overlay on your photographs—rather, it lets you paint using photographs as a base. The developers explain: “PaintCan helps you paint, with smart brushes that configure themselves based on the image you are painting on.” Take pictures of your real world and make them a little more colorful.
It seems like the folks at Disney are cranking out a billion new apps a week. The latest? (Well, as of this writing.) Disney Infinity: Toy Box 2.0 for iPhone and iPad. Pick from the universe of Disney and Marvel heroes—you can collect more than 60 characters overall, but only the first three are free—to make your own custom games within the app. It’s compatible with PC and console versions of the game, so you can pick up on one device where you left off on the other.
Want to take a cheap trip? Hopper might be for you. “Hopper constantly monitors prices to find the lowest fares, and notifies you the instant you should buy. It’s like having a super-fast, all-knowing travel agent in your pocket.”
The new Microsoft Outlook email app is … actually pretty great. It triages email for you—there are “focused” and “other” inboxes depending on a message’s likely level of importance. Swipe to the left and you can either archive or delete a message; swipe to the right and you can shedule an event based on that email. Works with Microsoft Exchange, Office 365, Outlook.com, iCloud, Gmail, and Yahoo Mail.
This $2 iPhone app is built for folks who work varying shifts—just glance at your calendar in this app to be reminded if you’re working the morning, evening, or overnight shift. You can use the app to share that information with family, friends, and co-workers as well.
Soundcloud for iPad giveth and it also taketh away. The latest version is overhauled, giving users an easier method of discovering and collecting new audio tracks, and also allowing the creation of podcasts. But you can no longer directly record your own music, podcasts, or other audio using the latest version of the app. Soundcloud, on iOS anyway, has decided to cast its lot with consumers than producers.
Desperate to get to the fabled “inbox zero?” This free Gmail-compatible app for iPhone limits your view of the emails you send and receive to 30 words apiece, letting you “ go through your emails as fast as read your social feeds, and only dive into what really interests you.”
