
This week’s roundup of apps includes two new offerings for editing and sharing images captured on your iPhone—plus TV, social media, and more.

It seems like every week brings a new iOS photo editor and Darkroom, a free offering for iPhone, well, it’s one of the newest. It comes with 12 filters, a version history so that you can easily correct editing mistakes, and the ability to create your own DIY filter sets.

The biggest and most powerful sports network in the world has replaced its old SportsCenter iPhone and iPad apps with one free ESPN universal app to rule them all. You can check scores, get the latest news, and follow your favorite teams, all from the comfort of just one app.

The free Nutshell app for iPhone combines photographs and video. Take three photos, add captions, graphics, and animation, and the app immediately generates a short video for sharing with your friends. Check out this video for a demonstration.

Like Facebook before it, Pinterest is tying itself ever tighter to the broader app ecosystem—the latest update to the iOS app lets you pin other apps you like and install them on your device directly from Pinterest. The company blogs: “When you come across an app Pin, tap Install to download the app right to your iPhone or iPad without ever leaving Pinterest (you’ll only see app Pins when you’re using the Pinterest app on your iPhone or iPad).”

The $3 Saver 2 personal finance app lets you track your income and spending, as well as set your financial goals. “Saver tracks your cash, plans your budgets, reviews and analyzes data, and gives you all the essential information to spend wisely and save for things that matter.” You can upgrade to Saver Plus or Saver Pro for additional features.

It used to be that Sling Television let you watch your home television channels live on your computer while out on the road hundreds of miles away. (Traveling salesmen and sports reporters swore by it.) The latest update to the app lets you circumvent the cable company entirely by offering a $20-a-month “best of live TV” package that includes ESPN, ESPN 2,TNT, TBS, Adult Swim, Disney Channel, Food Network, HGTV, Cartoon Network, CNN, the Travel Channel, ABC Family—and soon AMC will be part of that package. Like photo editors, big city transit apps also proliferate. Urban Engines promises to give you “the fastest public transit route from point A to B whether online or offline, evaluating traffic, area events, and how transit routes have fared historically.” Right now it’s available for commuters in Boston, Chicago, LA, New York, Portland, San Francisco, Seattle, Toronto, Vancouver, Washington DC, and Singapore.

Angry Birds Seasons has updated to feature an NBA All Star Game theme … Starbucks is adding Apple Pay compatibility …. Uber has been updated with design and localization improvements.
