This week’s new apps include several entries designed for the Apple Watch—and one made, yes, for Android Wear. Read on!
The latest update to Airbnb puts the app on Apple Watch, which hosts and travelers can use to communicate with each other instantaneously—the better to make reservations, discuss accommodations, and make arrangements.
Yup, the Android Wear connects your iPhone to your Android watch. “Once connected you’ll receive notifications from all your iPhone apps, right on your wrist, as well as timely information from Google Now (like traffic alerts, weather and flight status).” If only Apple made some product that did these things.
If, on the other hand, you want less Google in your life, Bing Search is now available for Apple Watch. Mostly it’s a news-driven feature rather than search: You can see trending headlines from Bing’s “Popular Now” feature on your wrist.
Clashem appears to be a viral video production machine: It pits two five-second clips of videos against each other and lets you choose which one to approve and help climb the leaderboard. Users can also upload videos—the crazier the better: “Your next-door neighbor twerking, monkeys driving motorcycles, grannies scooter jumping flaming hoops, the longest grind ever filmed,” and, well, you get the idea, bro.
Direct Messenger uses Twitter’s DM platform to offer an alternative to texting—after all, your phone’s data plan doesn’t charge your for Twitter messages. You can send stickers, photos, and even voicemails using the platform.
Google Street View now has its own stand-alone app that lets you “explore world landmarks, discover natural wonders, and step inside locations such as museums, arenas, restaurants, and small businesses.”
Remember RSS? The $4 NetNewsWire app for iPhone does, updating to Version 4.0, which lets you choose between text-only reading or stories with full-size inline images. You can easily share or bookmark articles—and the app even suggests articles that might be up your alley.
The $2 Ski Safari 2 for iPhone and iPad. “Play as Sven’s sister Evana, share the action in multiplayer mode, perform awesome new tricks on snowboards and skis, and ride on crazy new animals!” You’ll go to places like Jurassic Lark, Penguin Peaks, and Twister Canyon.
Skype for iPhone (pictured) has been completely redesigned … Instagram has added a direct messaging feature … Google Photos has been updated to let you order your photos in an album any which way you like.
