The Week in iOS Apps: It’s complicated

Apple Watches are full of complications—in the best sense of the word. Really. We’ll show you two apps featuring new complications, plus more from the iOS world. Read on!

Here’s a word you’ll get used to in the age of the Apple Watch—“complications,” used to describe small elements that appear on the watch face and offer quick access to frequently used data. The $4 Carrot Weather app is one of those “funny” weather apps, providing a snarky quip with its forecasts. The newest update adds complications for the Apple Watch—it can now show you current weather and forecasts the next few hours—as well as new 3D Touch quick actions supported in iOS 9 on the iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus.

Dark Sky’s new Apple Watch complications are similar to those found on Carrot Weather, showing current conditions and how they’ll exist several hours into the future. This $4 app’s notifications have also been revamped.

Here’s what you need to know about Disney Infinity: Toy Box 3.0: It adds “Star Wars” characters to the universe of Disney, Pixar, and Marvel characters already in the game. May the force be with you.

Flow for Instagram launched Version 3.0 this week, and is now available on iPhone. You can’t post photos from the app, but you can look at pictures posted by you and your friends, with the ability to bookmark the pics you like the best.

Nusiki is a social network that lets friends share songs, like status updates, with each other. The latest version of the app allows users to sign in with Twitter, to share playlist and posts to Twitter and Facebook, and features improved notifications. 

Sleep++ is a new sleep-monitoring app for the Apple Watch: Wear your watch while you sleep, activate the app when you start to sleep, then let it know when you’ve woken up. The app then gives you a breakdown on your other app-equipped iOS devices of how well you slept and when you were restless, letting you fine-tune your sleep.

Twitterrific now offers support for iPad’s split-screen multitasking features, allows you to you respond to push notifications directly from the notification center in iOS 9, and lets users send and receive unlimited-length direct messages. 

Scannable has updated with improved whiteboard capture … Pixelmator (pictured) has added multitasking support … Google Wallet has updated to make it easier to send and request money.
