So a person wrote a blog post about an iCloud Music Library snafu that wiped out a bunch of his collection. That would be very upsetting for anyone, whether it’s from a random software glitch, or it was your fault because of confusing dialogs in iTunes. Our own iTunes Guy, Kirk McElhearn, has a good explanation of what probably happened, but since the original poster is no longer discussing the problem, we can’t be 100 percent sure.
Elsewhere, we talk about smartphone security and the government again, but it has nothing to do with encryption or the FBI. The FCC and FTC are inquiring with smartphone makers about how often they issue security updates, especially for phones that are no longer brand-new. Speaking of mobile, Netflix is making it easier for you to control how much data you use, and Opera has a free and unlimited VPN—that doesn’t work with Netflix.
