If you have a brand-new 9.7-inch iPad Pro and you haven’t yet installed the iOS 9.3.2 update, you can go ahead and upgrade starting now. Some users were seeing an “Error 56” message when upgrading late last month, and found their devices bricked. Apple just released a new version of iOS 9.3.2 for 9.7-inch iPad Pros affected by the bug and for those who were holding off until the fix was in to update.
The error instructed affected users to connect to iTunes, but doing so and attempting to restore or update the iPad didn’t work.
Some bricked Pros were replaced by Apple, while others were advised to wait for a fix. Macworld staffers had no issues upgrading their lil Pros to the latest version of iOS, but it was troublesome enough that Apple pulled iOS 9.3.2 four days after its release and just pushed out a new version with a fix for the problem.
If your Pro was affected by Error 56, obviously you won’t be able to install the update over the air as normal. That’s OK: Just connect your device to your Mac via Lightning cable and download iOS 9.3.2 from iTunes.
