This might be the biggest gaming app news of the week: Pokémon GO (freemium, iPhone and iPad) brings all your favorite characters into the real world. In this augmented reality game from Niantic, you walk around the neighborhood and your iPhone buzzes when there’s a Pokemon nearby. Throw a Poké Ball to collect it before it gets away—as you probably guessed, you gotta catch ’em all.
It’s a great week to be a Brony. My Little Pony: Harmony Quest (Freemium, iPhone and iPad) lets you gather all six ponies, then use their powers to save the Tree of Harmony.
File New ($4, iPhone) is a new photo editor that includes 70 filters, the ability to add text and artwork, plus more than 400 designs and illustrations that can be used for a variety of events and occasions.
We like Ike! Focus Matrix (Free, iPhone and iPad) is a task manager based on the “Eisenhower box” developed by former President Dwight Eisenhower to separate a day’s tasks into urgent and less-urgent items. A $2 in-app upgrade lets you use the service across multiple devices.
Run to the hills! Iron Maiden: Legacy of the Beast (freemium, iPhone and iPad) uses the imagery and music of the legendary metal band to inspire gameplay: “Fight legions of unrelenting enemies as you piece together the shattered remnants of Eddie’s soul, and ultimately save the universe!” Rock on!
Meep (free, iPhone) is for readers who don’t have time to read: Instead, they listen to professional narrators read stories from their favorite sites, like the New York Times. Ten thousand new stories are added each month, and you can listen to up to 50 stories a month before the subscription requirement kicks in, starting at $8 a month.
Simpliday (freemium, iPhone) brings your calendar, reminders, and emails into one app. New features include “fancy reminder” of events shared with family and friends, as well new premium features that include the addition of multiple email accounts and the ability to add documents to your reminders.
Did you enjoy “The Little Prince” as a child? The Little Fox ($3, iPhone and iPad) is a hexagonal runner based on that story, only told from the perspective of the Fox, “a charming little character with a big heart.”
Lifesum has added new get-in-shape plans to its roster … Nike + Training Club (pictured) has undergone a major redesign … YouTube announced it is bringing live video streaming to its mobile app … and Twitter has announced it will allow video uploads of up to 140 seconds.
