This week’s roundup features the unveiling of this year’s edition of one of our favorite iOS game franchises: NBA 2K. What does the 2017 version bring? Read on to find out!
It’s the most wonderful time of the year: The arrival NBA 2K17 ($8) offers realistic NBA gameplay with up-to-date rosters—yes, Kevin Durant is playing for the Golden State Warriors—as well as features that let you create and experience a player’s career, plus a chance to play with historic players and EuroLeague teams.
Accuweather (free) has been updated for iOS 10, with something new for every platform—new stickers for iMessage, a refreshed design for Apple Watch, a “dark theme” for Apple TV, and improvements to the widget. There’s also a new feature that lets users upload their videos fo dramatic weather to be shared across Accuweather’s network.
Batman: The Telltale Series ($5) lets you “enter the fractured psyche of Bruce Wayne and discover the powerful and far-reaching consequences of your choices as the Dark Knight.” Best of all, you have a fresh chance to practice your Batman voice.
Beachbody on Demand (freemium) returns with Apple Watch support—including continuous heart rate and calorie tracking via the watch. Your real-time biometric feedback can be displayed on your phone’s screen during workouts, and haptic feedback via the watch indicates when you’ve entered a new heart rate zone.
Google Allo (free, iPhone only) is another messaging app from Google—this one features stickers and emoji, as well as a “smart reply” feature that anticipates your potential replies to messages from friends and family. The app also includes Google Assistant, which lets you search for information (like restaurant locations and more) even while you’re chatting away.
Google Trips (free, iPhone only) gathers information about your travel from Gmail and organizes it by trip to create a rich itinerary with day plans, food and drink suggestions, nearby attractions, and more. The app is also available offline, so you’ll always have your trip information at your fingerprints.
Highly (free) lets you “highlight the web”—any text in Safari or Chrome, then share via social networks or email to start a conversation about your important discovery.
A little bit of history for you: Remembering WWI (free, iPad only) draws on the resources of the National Archives and Records Administration to present the history World War I in a collection of moving and still images.
DataMan Pro (pictured) has updated for iOS 10 compatibility … Tweetbot 4 now supports longer, “extended” tweets … Google Photos has updated with improved sharing features.
