Although I had a perfectly fine education, I blame that education for my yearly need to describe what I did on my summer vacation. This week’s podcast provides the opportunity to combine both subjects—education and how I spent my time away from work.
In this instance I spent an afternoon touring Hawai’i Preparatory Academy’s Energy Lab—a sustainable teaching center—with its director, Dr. Bill Wiecking. I was vastly impressed by the work being done at the Lab. So impressed, in fact, that I thought I’d share some of the experience with you in the form of an extended interview with Dr. Wiecking. If you’re interested in the future of sustainable living, education, and Apple’s efforts in each area, you must listen to this compelling interview.

Show notes
For those who bother to scan this far down the page, let me repeat what I announce in the opening of this episode: Starting this week, we move to a weekly podcast. I’ll host every other week and, in the intervening weeks, the podcast will be hosted by another Macworld editor—Jason Snell and Philip Michaels are the likely candidates. If you’ve been dying for more round-table interviews and episodes of the infamous Pundit Showdown, die no more, there’s good stuff coming.
You may notice that I did very little other than ask a few questions during my interview with Bill Wiecking. That can be explained by an interviewer so wrapped up in what his guest was saying that he didn’t want to interrupt the flow. Bill’s an inspiring speaker and teacher—the kind that makes me wish I could roll back the years and take classes from him. The next best thing is attending some of his Macworld Expo sessions, where he’s a regular speaker. Expo 2011 sessions haven’t yet been announced, but keep your eyes on the site and look for his name. You won’t regret the time you spend with him.
For other vacation-related epiphanies, be sure to read my article on what I learned on my summer vacation, which we published on Macworld.com a few weeks ago.
