The Week in iOS Accessories and Cases: Pictar gives your phone a DSLR grip

This week’s roundup of accessories includes new cases for iPhone and iPad, new crowdfunding projects, and one of our favorite Bluetooth keyboards ever.

Adonit’s Snap stylus ($35) is built for iPhone use. The Bluetooth-enabled stylus is thin, and magnetically snaps to your phone so it’s always available to use. It has an aluminum barrel with stainless steel details.

Pictar ($100) transforms your phone into a DSLR-style camera, offering a shutter-button grip that includes “half press” mode to lock focus and “full press” for immediate shutter release. Better yet: If you’re photographing in the cold, Pictar makes it easy to shoot pictures while wearing gloves.

We can’t help but be a bit delighted at the sight of the Penna Retro Bluetooth Keyboard (starts at $114, with pledge through Indiegogo). This typewriter-style keyboard comes with either diamond-style keycaps or retro chrome keycaps—the macro bar on the left is even functional. While it’s functional, we just think it looks really cool. So do crowdfunders, who raised nearly 10 times the sum the makers needed to go into production.

The GoPower Watch Stand ($70) is pretty simple: It lets you charge and display your Apple Watch. One distinguishing feature: It has the Apple Watch’s inductive charging connector built into the stand, and can charge both 38mm and 42mm models.

Airlink (coming soon) is another way to match your non-wireless earbuds to the iPhone 7—just plug them into a portable Bluetooth adapter with a 3.5mm jack, wirelessly connect to your phone, and you’ll be ready to go for a jog. You can sign up at the website for news on pricing and availability.

This company has announced its Hue Wellness Ambiance fixtures and table lamps, all of which can be controlled via iPhone or iPad with the Philips Hue app. The Flushmount and Wellner and Wellness table lamps are now available for pre-order starting at $100; the Philips Hue White Ambiance candle bulb is $30 and will be available for purchase in July. The entire line is compatible with Apple Homekit.

PopSockets ($10) are “a grip, a stand, a wrap and more”—just stick them on the back of yoru iPhone or iPad to make holding and using your devices more comfortable and secure. They come in a vast array of designs.

Here’s a cool Kickstarter project: iMicroscope R (starts at a $59 pledge) turns your phone—as you may have guessed from the name — into a microscope, letting you view the tiniest things in the world up close and personal.

Nike has introduced a couple of new iPhone cases. The Roshe ($35) “unique outsole pattern of one of Nike’s most popular shoes,” as does Air Force 1 ($35). Both are made of thermoplastic polyurethane, providing hard protection against drops and scratches.

The iPhone 7 Lens Case (a $59 Kickstarter pledge) is a 6-in-1 lens case that enables you to take high-quality shot in the most comprehensive, convenient and portable way.” The case includes lenses for  telephoto, wide-angle, fisheye and macro, using a built-in slide-and-snap mechanism. The makers say it’s great for both “stunning landscapes and beautiful close-ups.”

Incipio’s Clarion Case ($35) is a folio-style case—the lid can fold back into a hands-free kickstand mode secured with a locking clip—with a translucent back that shows off your iPad and a rigid cover that protects your screen. It comes in black, blue, or pink.

The Survivor Rugged Folio ($50) has a “tactical” grip cover — “which resists dirt, grease and stains” — that becomes a kickstand perfect for viewing or typing on your tablet. It’s strong enough to help our tablet survive a six-foot drop onto concrete, and it’s built forall the recent editions of the iPad.
