When Apple killed off the old scissor-switch MacBook Airs, people started lamenting that Apple no longer sold a MacBook that costs less than $1,000. And if you buy one from Apple, that’s true. Head over to Amazon today, though, and you’ll find that you can get the 2018 MacBook Air for just $949.99. That’s a match of the best price we’ve ever seen it listed for on Amazon, and the last time it was selling at that price was over a month ago.
You can also get this model for the same price at both B&H Photo and Best Buy . Hop on this deal while you can, though, as history shows that it rarely stays at this price for long.
It’s a good laptop if you favor portability over sheer power, and I enjoyed using it. It doesn’t have a Touch Bar (I’m inclined to say that’s a good thing), but it does come with a Touch ID sensor, which greatly speeds up app and website logins. It has a butterfly keyboard, but it’s padded with a membrane that makes it quieter than what you’d find in most earlier butterfly MacBooks.
Here are a few additional specs:
- 13.3-inch Retina display
- Dual-core 8th-Generation Intel Core i5 Processor
- 128GB storage
- 8GB memory
- Intel UHD Graphics 617
You’ll find a lot more information in our full review from November of 2018. Here’s how we wrapped it up:
“If you’re familiar with the 12-inch MacBook, using the new MacBook Air makes it immediately obvious that this is a slightly updated and scaled-up version of that model, with the ‘Air’ name attached. If you’ve been waiting for years for Apple to finally re-imagine the MacBook Air in a way that will once again revolutionize the thin-and-light laptop market, you’re going to be disappointed to find that it has only been brought up to the standards of other modern Mac laptops, with all the good and bad that goes with that.”
