Apple’s new 16-inch MacBook Pro is selling for its best price ever at Amazon, which means you can get one for $2,187.92, down $211 from the retail price of $2,399. It’s an impressive rig as far as “starter” models go, as you can see from the specs:
- Ninth-generation 6-Core Intel Core i7 Processor
- 16GB RAM
- 512GB SSD storage
- AMD Radeon Pro 5300M Graphics with GDDR6 memory
But the biggest improvement in this model is the triumphant return of the scissor-switch keyboard after years of complaints about Apple’s butterfly keyboards. It’s not quite the same keyboard that you would have found in Apple’s old MacBooks, but it comes reasonably close. (It’s basically the same design as a Magic Keyboard 2.)
If you need a new Pro laptop and you haven’t been happy with your keyboard, I’d seriously consider taking advantage of this deal. I’m personally so tired of the butterfly keyboard on my own MacBook Pro that I’ve taken to writing every longform story on a Logitech K380 Bluetooth keyboard instead.
This laptop is definitely aimed at users who need MacBooks with some extra oomph, though. If you prefer smaller laptops (as I do), you might be better off waiting until Apple releases the refreshed 13-inch model, which is rumored to have scissor switches for keys as well.
