Today, Amazon is selling the entry-level
128GB model of the 13-inch MacBook Air for $200 off, which will let you walk away with one for $899, down from the normal price of $1,099. If you want the
256GB model, it’s on sale for $1,099. If you can swing it, that’s what you should go for—128GB really isn’t a lot of storage space these days.
This isn’t the lowest price we’ve ever seen it listed for, but it is the lowest price we’ve seen for a couple of months.
It’s a good machine, and you can get an idea of what to expect from
our review of the 2018 MacBook Air, which is effectively the same machine aside from the fact that the new model has a TrueTone display (and some other very minor differences). Just keep in mind that this isn’t the “classic” MacBook Air with the glowy logo and satisfying keyboard—although it does come with a handy Touch ID button that greatly simplifies tasks like logging into websites.
Here are a few more specs:
- Dual-core 8th-generation Intel Core i5 processor
- Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 617
- 8GB RAM
- Stereo speakers with wider stereo sound
- Two Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports
If you’re really against the idea of buying a Mac with a butterfly keyboard, there may be hope on the horizon. Apple reintroduced a scissor-switch keyboard for the 2019 16-inch MacBook Pro, and believable rumors suggest one might be coming to the 13-inch model as well. I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that Apple will probably work one into an updated model of the MacBook Air.
But that’s pure speculation, and at any rate, you’ll have to wait several months before you see discounts like this for a brand-new model. If you need a capable MacBook that won’t break the bank and you need it now, this model will serve you well.
