This week, Amazon is selling the 40mm Apple Watch Series 5 with cellular for the lowest price we’ve ever seen it listed for on that site—but you’ll have to wait a couple of days before it actually ships. Specifically, you can get the 40mm space gray aluminum model for $444.98, down $54.02 from the normal price of $499.
But let’s just hammer this home: These are backordered, so you can order them today, but Amazon says it won’t have any back in stock until March 7. This is a big improvement, though, as Amazon was reporting March 30 as the restock date when I started writing this story.
If you’ve never owned an Apple Watch before, this would be my recommendation if you want one that you’ll be happy with for years. The big change with the Series 5 is the always-on display, which allows you to see the time if even if you’re not currently looking at your device. (With all other models of Apple Watch, you need to look directly at it before the display lights up).
There’s also a built-in compass now, and you’ll find all the same features that made the previous Series 4 such a big improvement over the Series 3, including a larger display, a built-in ECG and fall detector, and better battery life.

There’s no question that the Apple Watch Series 5 is the absolute best smartwatch money can buy. It has an incredible screen, excellent app support, and the strongest set of sensors and features you’ll find anywhere. It’s expensive for sure, but when you consider Tag Heuer sells a $1,700 Wear OS watch without LTE, the price doesn’t seem quite so outlandish.
