Now that Apple has released a new model of the iPad Pro, we’re starting to see some great deals for the previous 2018 model. Amazon is currently selling the space gray 2018 512GB 12.9-inch model with Wi-Fi for $ 1,129.94 (down from $1,349), while the 1TB model is selling for $1,369.96 (down from $1,549).
In both cases, these are the lowest prices we’ve ever seen for these models on Amazon by a significant margin. It’s also remarkable that these models are even in stock, as most other iPads models are missing from Amazon’s digital shelves. We recommend hopping on this deal before it’s too late.
This is a case where you shouldn’t worry too much about upcoming obsolescence: While some specs have improved—mainly in terms of the camera, storage options, and processor speed—the 2018 and 2020 models remain similar devices.
While the 2020 model has a better A12Z Bionic chip versus this 2018’s A12X Bionic, in most apps you’re not going to notice much of a difference. Instead, the biggest changes lie in the camera. The 2018 model has a perfectly serviceable 12MP rear camera and a 7MP FaceTime camera, but the 2020 model has a dual-camera rear setup that makes it ideal for ultra-wide shots, and it also comes with a LiDAR sensor, which will make some augmented reality applications more accurate. But if you’re like me and you almost never use the camera on your iPad apart from the occasional scan, these are features you could probably safely live without.
The 2020 models also come with higher starting storage limits, but that’s not much of an issue here as this deal focuses on the beefy 512GB and 1TB models.
