We’ll give you 10.5 guesses as to the subject of this installment of the Macworld Podcast.
Yes—it’s OS X 10.5. You’re a pretty good guesser.
Leopard has been out in the wild for a weekend, and we’re sure you’ve got questions about the latest update to Apple’s operating system. We try to answer them in a free-ranging discussion on our OS X 10.5 experiences that features myself, editorial director Jason Snell, senior features editor Kelly Turner, and senior editor Rob Griffiths. Before that, however, I spend some time with senior editor Dan Frakes, as we look at low-cost, third-party software that offered features now a part of Leopard.

I’m sure you have your own thoughts about Leopard. Why not share them in the form of an email ? Audio comments in the form of an AAC or MP3 file are particularly welcome. You can also leave us a message at 415/520-9761 if you’d like to have your comments included in a future podcast.
We’ve got a metric ton of Leopard coverage on the website right now, starting with our multi-part Inside Leopard feature. We’ve also got tips on installing OS X 10.5. Be sure not to miss Jason Snell’s review and Andy Ihnatko’s assessment of the Leopard update.
Dan Frakes plans to cover third-party apps that will find themselves competing with built-in OS X 10.5 features in his Mac Gems blog this week. But some of the apps we cover in our talk include Spotlight alternatives Moru, EasyFind, and NotLight. We also touch on how Spotlight fares against application launchers like Quicksilver, Butler, and LaunchBar. Apps that already did what Leopard’s version of iChat now does include ChatFX, ShowMacster, and Chax.
Finally, a correction and an apology: In the reader feedback section of the last podcast, I mispronounced the name of our audio contributor, Robert Hazelrigg. My apologies.
