She may not be Kim Kardashian, but apparently Gwyneth Paltrow still has some advice on how to launch a successful iOS app.
According to Variety, Gwyneth Paltrow will join other high-profile mentors in Planet of the Apps, a forthcoming reality competition for app developers that will premiere exclusively on Apple Music in 2017. Apple is co-producing the reality show as part of the iPhone-maker’s big first push into original content for its one-year-old streaming service.
“Developing and launching a business based on your own original idea can be exhilarating, but intimidating,” Paltrow said in a statement. “This is a great opportunity to be part of a series that lets us use our experiences to help app developers break through and create viable businesses that will impact peoples’ lives.”
Planet of the Apps is also set to star musician Will.i.am and entrepreneur Gary Vaynerchuk, a previous investor in Uber, Twitter, Tumblr, and Meerkat. Earlier this month, the show announced an open casting call for iOS developers to apply for the Shark Tank-style competition. Variety reports that Planet of the Apps will include upwards of 100 developers and entrepreneurs vying for a chance to get their products showcased, while touting the benefits of Apple’s App Store.
Paltrow is not the only celebrity you’ll be able to catch with a Apple Music subscription. Last week, Apple Music scored exclusive rights to stream the standalone Carpool Karaoke web series, which originated as a popular segment on The Late Late Show With James Corden.
Why this matters: Although Paltrow has had success launching her lifestyle website, Goop.com, she is not the first celebrity to come to mind when we think of mobile apps. Paltrow’s only iOS app at the moment is the Goop City Guides (iTunes) for New York, Los Angeles, London, and Paris.
At least we know she wouldn’t leave her house without her iPhone. That’s always important.
