April 1 marks the 30th anniversary of Apple. It’s no joke. What a long way Mac users have come from the engineering brilliance of the Apple I and its difficult interface, to the overall elegance of the new video-playing iPod.

We’ve brought in a few extra guests to give us some perspective on the last three decades, including an interview with Owen Linzmayer, author of Apple Confidential 2.0: The Definitive History of the World’s Most Colorful Company (No Starch Press, 2004). An excerpt from his book can be read here.

Also, we’ll feature a conversation between Jason Snell, Macworld’s editorial director, and Rick LePage, Mac Publishing president. (I erroneously stated in the podcast that he is Macworld’s publisher, instead of president of the magazine’s parent company.)

Show notes

•Here’s where you can find an excerpt from Apple Confidential 2.0 .

•Rick LePage—now the president of Mac Publishing (I inadvertently identified him as the publisher in the podcast)—got his start at Computerworld, which still exists as a sister publication to Macworld. He also started the newsletter (and now website) called Macintouch.
