If you’ve been seeking an iPad that’s powerful enough to pass for a laptop, then you should head over to Walmart and get the current-generation 64GB 11-inch iPad Pro that’s selling for $674, down from the normal price of $799. This is the best price we’ve seen for this device (by a buck), and this marks the first time it’s dropped back to these prices in a couple of months.
I personally use the 12.9-inch model, but I often find myself wishing I had this smaller and more portable unit instead. With its powerful A12X Bionic chip, it handles every app thrown at it with ease. It supports Face ID, which is especially well-suited to the iPad because you’re almost always looking at it. That means you don’t have to constantly reach up to press a home button when you want to authorize something, as you have to do with the Touch ID models.
Additional improvements include support for the second-generation Apple Pencil, which charges and pairs when you drop it on a magnetic strip on the iPad’s side. When you combine all this with the many improvements Apple made in iPadOS 13, then you’ve got a machine that should work fine for most tasks. (It could still do better, though.)
You’ll have to buy the second-generation Apple Pencil separately, but fortunately it’s also on sale at Walmart for $119.97, down from the frankly stunning $159.99 it normally sells for. If you like the idea of drawing or taking longhand notes without sacrificing a forest’s worth of trees, it’s a good buy.
For more information, be sure to check out my review of the 12.9-inch model from 2018, but keep in mind that I wrote it before Apple dropped all the charges in iPadOS 13. Also, to close this with a caveat: 64GB really isn’t a lot of room these days, especially if you plan on using this powerful device to edit video, or even just to download a lot of shows or Apple Arcade games. Even so, it’s hard not to love that price.
