iLuv Sound Cubes Amplified Stereo Speakers review

If you’re looking for a portable solution to get better audio from your Mac, then iLuv’s Sound Cubes could be the answer.

At just £29.99, the tiny but powerful speakers are well worth considering. They plug into a Mac or PC via USB, and you’ll just need to go into your computer’s settings to change the sound output to USB Audio to switch the sound over from your built-in speakers.

We instantly noticed a huge difference in sound quality when we played tracks from our iTunes library through the Sound Cubes. Despite being small enough to fit both speakers in the palm of your hand, the Sound Cubes have an impressive bass, and remove that tinny texture that most built-in speakers produce.

The maximum volume is plenty loud enough to be used to entertain a room full of guests, but higher volumes on some of our test tracks did cause minor sound distortion.

For watching movies or streaming television shows online, the Sound Cubes are a perfect way to enhance your viewing experience. Placing one speaker on either side of a MacBook creates a surround sound effect, perfect for action movies that would previously have sounded unsatisfactory through the built-in speakers.

The small, metallic cube design of the Sound Cubes sits nicely next to a MacBook, fitting in with Apple’s aesthetics.
