Palm CEO Ed Colligan isn’t fazed by Apple’s rumoured plan to launch a hybrid iPod-mobile phone on an already expecting public.
According to the Mercury News, Colligan dismissed the notion that Apple could make headway in the smartphone market.
He pointed out that his firm has “struggled” to make a decent phone, and slammed market expectations that the usability and technology experts at Apple could “just walk in” to the market.
“PC guys are not going to just figure this out. They’re not going to just walk in,” he said.
However, critics are already pointing out that Palm uses Windows Mobile to power its phones, software made by ‘PC guys’.
Others reflect that Apple still has knowledge and technologies developed for its legendary Newton organiser, including ‘Inkwell’ handwriting recognition technology, which remains within Mac OS X.
Additional reports today claim Apple is developing not one but two iPhones, with one model offering built-in support for iChat.
